TRUE FRIENDS

This spoke to me today. We have those in our lives that we classify as friends. But this term, I find, is used rather loosely. Being a friend is a responsibility. You are not obliged to fulfill those responsibilities, you only fulfill them if you want to whole heartedly. There are those that will be there who will stand with you through your toughest times. The question is, why are they there? I will speak nothing but truth with this next phrase. Some friends are there to truly bring you out of your funk, to support you, to love you. There are others that simply want to know to ensure you are miserable just like them. As the saying goes, misery loves companies. Sometimes, the mask comes off many years later when you get side-swiped with the Mac truck. As another saying goes, better late than never. These same people that enjoy unhappy company are also the very same that are not truly happy for you when you have success. In fact, they resent you for it. Friends are great but, we must choose wisely who we give this title to. Don’t ignore the signs leading up to catastrophe or make excuses for bad behaviour. I have learned that everything just is. So embrace those true friends that are there through both the up’s and down’s and will not leave you high and dry when things get tough. These people are what I would classify as opportunists and resource suckers. Walk from those that will leave you burning in the fire to save face. True friends are hard to find. Not everyone will be your friend. Some will be nothing but a mask. Here’s a hint. Friends do not judge. Friends do not abandon you. Friends will go to the ends of the earth and back for you. You know the ones you keep? The ones that tell you off with love, the ones that are there through thick and thin and the ones that smile when you do.
